Case Study #2 - Preparing an industry leader's new tablet for its debut
The Customer's Challenge
Our customer developed a proprietary tablet PC product designed to carve out their niche in what they correctly believed was a growth category. Designing and building the new device was the easy part. The hard part was finding support channels that could get the new tablets into the marketplace through carrier and retail channels – and making sure they went out loaded, configured and ready for eager customers to use.

BrightPoint won the opportunity to manage and fulfill the vast majority of this critical product rollout with a flexible, adaptive tactical customization process. Working with shifting requirements under the tightest of deadlines, BrightPoint delivered:
- Protected Fulfillment including a secure product area within the distribution center, with restricted access, ensuring confidentiality
- A "clean" operating environment to protect the hardware's physical integrity
- 120 dedicated software flashing stations, each one flashing 25 units per hour
- 60 assembly stations to prepare the devices for retail sale and accommodate steep projected demand
- Special packaging services that complied to the customer's taping requirements
Results
At launch, BrightPoint had managed 75% of all tablets and accessories in the marketplace, delivering on our promise and exceeding expectations. As a consequence, the customer soon shifted the remaining 25% to BrightPoint and also chose us to lead a key promotional effort requiring us to potentially kit thousands of tablets a day.

- Virtually real-time reporting that informs our partner of each return's status
- Specialized triage, refurbish and repair services to asses and address each returned device, generating viable B-stock product for resale
Results
BrightPoint's efficient processing of recovered devices has cut aged B-stock inventories by 50% and increased utilization to 91%. OEM warranty and insurance service recovers $12 million annually. Detailed reporting and serialized inventory from BrightPoint helps our partner better match inventory to forecasts, right down to the individual device and specific store. From one end of the supply chain to the other, BrightPoint proved to be the right move at every stage.
